Dormone®
DORMONE is a selective herbicide for the control of many broad-leaved weeds in amenity grassland situations, such as golf courses, playing fields, roadside verges and ornamental lawns. It may also be used in situations in or near water.
Contains 465 g/L 2,4-D (38.1% w/w) as the diethanolamine salt.

Mixing
SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE
Half fill the spray tank with clean water, add the required quantity of DORMONE. Top up with water and agitate thoroughly before application.
Application and Timing
Application of DORMONE is best carried out in the spring and early summer when the weeds and grasses are growing actively. Spraying should be avoided during periods of prolonged drought (unless irrigation is carried out) as poor control of weeds and damage to the grass may result.
As some of the more difficult weeds may require more than one application for complete control, a second application of DORMONE may be made 4-6 weeks after the first. In general several applications of DORMONE at a low rate will give better results than a single application at a high rate.
At least three days should elapse after mowing before spraying in order to allow sufficient weed growth for absorption of the herbicide. Thereafter, at least 48 hours should elapse before cutting again if the maximum effect is to be obtained.
Turf which is newly laid should not be sprayed until cutting has taken place except in the case of swards consisting mainly of rye grass. Seeded areas should not be treated for 3-4 months after which the lower recommended rate should be used. Do not spray during drought.
A nitrogen fertiliser may be applied 10-14 days before spraying.

Rate of Use
Depending on the situation and the weeds to be controlled, DORMONE is recommended at rates of 2.8 or 5.6 litres in not less than 560 litres of water per hectare.
Equivalent rates for small areas are as follows:

Application is best carried out in early summer, though treatment may be made up to September. A spray volume of at least 560 litres of water per hectare should be used. When using a hand lance volumes up to 1000 litres per hectare may be needed.
DORMONE may also be used to control broad-leaved weeds growing on the banks of water courses, drainage ditches and reservoirs at the rate of 4.7 to 9.5 litres per hectare.
DO NOT use in 'water supply' systems. These are: rain water storage reservoirs, treatments works and distribution systems used to store, treat and supply water for domestic purposes of drinking, washing and cooking.
Only one application of DORMONE may be used in or near water, per year. DORMONE must not be tank mixed with any other pesticide when used in aquatic situations.
*Users must consult the appropriate Environment Agency regional office (or, in Scotland, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency) before using this product near water and must obtain their agreement before using this product to control aquatic weeds.
Decontamination of Spraying Machine
Wash equipment thoroughly, paying particular attention to the inside top of the spray tank, which should be cleaned immediately after use. Spray out, fill with clean water and leave overnight. Traces of the product can cause harm to susceptible crops sprayed later. This procedure can be facilitated by the use of a proprietary spray tank cleaner.
Cautions
Care should be taken to avoid drift on to neighbouring crops, trees, shrubs and flower beds.
Do not use the first four mowings after treatment for mulching and the clippings from these mowings should be put in a compost heap and left there for at least 6 months before being used as compost around plants. Susceptible crops such as brassicas or tomatoes should not be mulched with such compost at any time.
Damage may result unless all recommendations are carefully followed.
Storage
DORMONE containers should be stored, tightly closed in a dry frost-proof area, away from food feeding stuffs, fertilisers and water supplies.
Maximum permitted concentration in water - 5 ppm.
The Water Act 1989 and the Control of Pollution Act 1974 (England and Wales), may apply to the act of applying this herbicide for the control of weeds growing in or by reservoirs and watercourses e.g. rivers, streams, ditches and drains. Users must therefore consult the appropriate Water Authority before applying this herbicide for this purpose.
When treating weeds growing in or near water, users must consult the Official Code of
Practice 'Guidelines on the use of herbicides on weeds in or near watercourses and lakes'
obtainable from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Department of
Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland.
